This pleasant complex in Osu encompasses Pinocchio, a colourful café and ice cream parlour; La Piazza, an air-conditioned restaurant and outdoor seating area popular for its excellent pizzas, pasta, salads and chicken dishes; and The Grill, a rooftop terrace restaurant with a focus on steaks and burgers.

Noble House is one of the longest-serving and most popular Chinese restaurants in Accra. It’s affiliated with the equally popular Heritage Indian, and both are known for their good service.

Set around an agreeably rustic courtyard some five minutes’ walk from Oxford Street, Mamma Mia, now well into its second decade, serves up top-quality thin-crust, wood-fired pizzas in an attractive setting, making it easily one of Accra’s best options for Italian food.

While Kukum is primarily a workspace offering speedy WiFi and an oasis of calm in which the city’s creatives and entrepreneurs can dream up their next big thing, its café is also a destination in its own right.

Green Eats Salad Bar is a pioneer of Ghana’s burgeoning healthy-eating movement. From its Nyaniba Estates location, it has a ‘build your own salad’ concept, which has helped it gain a large following.

If you’re looking for hearty home cooking Ghanaian-style, this is a good bet. The staff are ‘relaxed’, but the food is fresh and very tasty – fufu, banku and jollof rice all come with a choice of chicken, beef, mutton or fish.

Au Grand Ecuyer is a lovely little place – we’re regulars.

This excellent Indian restaurant was set up by the guy behind Get Stuffed Deli (see above) in 1996. It’s since passed into the hands of his son, who continues the quality of great, traditional Indian cuisine.

It’s always a good sign when restaurant staff look upbeat and happy, as is the case at Le Tandem.

Le Must has been a force among Accra’s upscale eateries for two decades, with past diners including Jacques Chirac, Will Smith and Stevie Wonder.

The deeply appealing Cupcake Boutique in Labone is reminiscent of the popular American cupcake bakery Sprinkles.

This lovely little Labone outlet has good coffee, pastries and lunchtime sandwiches. The baked goods have always been of a decent quality and freshly made, while time has also been spent on training the staff to make a good coffee.

Stepping inside Milkbox and checking out its sleek decor and tantalising patisserie counter for the first time, you wouldn’t be blamed for thinking you’d walked into a high-end Paris bakery.
